I need a Doctor ...

Hey guys, its me again.

Um im in a spot of bother and thought now is as good as any time to ask for some help.

Basically, for the last, on i dont know, 3-4 months (?) my blog has been acting up and it is REALLY frustrating me.

There are several symptoms and if anyone can give me some advice on how to strop/fix this, it'd be really useful haha.

Ok, so ...
  • I cant see the 'followers' on my blog (or other people's) ... you know, on that 'gadget'
  • I cant comment on ANYONE's blog. No i havnt been ignoring Blogland, i just cant say anything haha
  • If by some mirracle it DOES let me post a comment, i have to sign in to my blog, sign in again to write a comment (which signs me out of my blog) and doesnt let me use my Blog 'name' to comment (i have to use OpenID or something)
  • I cant seem to follow anyone's blog now :/

These could be completely random coincidences but any suggestions?

Something like this happened to me a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, I can't remember the cure. It may have had to do with revising my blogger settings, or maybe it was on my browser (Safari). Could it have required "clearing the cache" somewhere?

Well, someone who is more of a tecchie than me will have to give you the answer, but I can at least assure you that there is an answer.

I'd make sure you have the latest version of whatever browser you are using...go to Help...About or Help...Check for Updates...install the latest version.

Try another browser. If you're using Firefox, try Chrome or IE, or vice-versa.

Make sure you don't have any viruses. They can screw with all sorts of things in a browser. If necessary, update your virus definitions and run a complete system scan. You can also get free antivirus software from here: http://cnet.co/nAHSn8

Install it, update it, run it. The odd thing is that a 500 server error is on Google's end, but if the server isn't getting the right data from your browser it will screw up.

Hi there, Jack

I've had these or similar symptoms at various times while I've been on Blogger, and in fact I'm not sure at the moment that I can reliably follow a new blog.

Jay's advice is all good - in particular, swapping browser may fix things. I switched from IE to Safari nearly a year ago for much the same reason.

This is also related to naturgesetz's "clearing the cache" suggestion: browsers store a lot of information about sites like Blogger in hidden files on your computer (the "cache"), and sometimes these get messed up, particularly if Blogger change the way they do things. Clearing a browser's cache sets things back to a clean state for that browser; swapping browser just avoids the messed-up cache for the old browser.

Hope this helps

Take care

From what Mark says, it seems that if you want to keep your browser, clearing the cache may be the thing to do.

Clearing the cache is an easy way to start. Let me know if you need to know where you find the option....

The above advice sounds good; I use Google Chrome and always clear the browser after. I also disable 3rd party cookies where a lot of bugs get in. I bite the bullet and pay the 100 bucks a year to Norton to keep my computer secure; worth every penny cos I don't trust the 'freebie' protection on the Internet. You might try a new blogger account using a different email address. - Wayne

Hey Jack...try turning off any ad blockers you are running, some of the them kill parts of Google, et all, that are used for commenting and showing certain pieces of blogs.
