Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove.
O no, it is an ever fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wand’ring barque,
Whose worth’s unknown, although his height be taken.
Love’s not time’s fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle’s compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.

If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

Love you baby, Jack xx

I'm learning more about Shakespeare on this blog than I did in all my years of high school! Very lovely though. I think he was talking about the kind of love that does not end up in divorce court. The test of time is the test of love, cos we all change both physically and mentally as the years go by. Will you still love your bf if he is fat and balding in his thirties? (I have seen the cutest teens grow up into beer-guzzling sports-watching lard butts lol) Looking good for your age does take some self-dicipline as the years go by. If you have a partner who is as loving and as faithful as that dog then you are blessed indeed. bfn - Wayne :)

Haha, well technically this counts as reviion for me :P

and your exactly right. He is asking whether true love exists or not, and that people can be under the pretence of love; but overall it is the people who love each other regardless who will escape death's clutches and in a way 'live forever' through their eternal love.
He really does have a way with words :P

Hi there, Jack

Beautiful, and very appropriate, words, and a wonderful picture too - though I'm guessing you would very much like to be where Peter's dog is.

I might quibble about your interpretation of the sonnet (it is a sonnet, isn't it?), just because I'm that sort of pedantic person. To me, it's saying fairly plainly that true love endures and accepts any and all changes in the loved one, and especially the loss of youth and beauty that time brings to us all (I'm pretty sure it's time's sickle that's referred to). But I didn't do Shakespeare at all at school, so maybe I'm missing something :-)

*hugs*

Haha, that i would :)

And yes it is a sonnet, and yes you are also correct. You've simple delved into the 'true love' he is talking about and questionning. And actually the sickle is death's scythe, but can also be applied to time.

But thats the joy of sonnets. It means somehting different to everyone and they are all correct.
