Media Studies

So at long last!!! Here is my Media Studies Video. We had some trouble with legal issues, where they didnt want us to post it to public places, unless it was neccessary to the course. But we got arround that by having a private link (ie. if you have the link you can watch the video) and we put it on our Coursework blog, that i've taken over ... as i know more about blogger than my partner (for obvious reasons lol) and ironically, more than the teacher lol.

But tbh i'm proud of my work and they simply said that they arn't the people who give permission, so its just a formality incase the artist decides to sue is ... which is VERY unlikely lol. So i'ma risk it on my own accord ... so it has nothing to do with my college or my media partner. Let me know what you think :P

(p.s. feel free to leave a comment on the youtube account too, or like it hahahaha) xx

I think it's awesome (except where the guitarist is playing the opposite of what the music is playing - hahahaha).

I know how much work goes into something like this, and you guys did an excellent job all the way around!

Peace <3

Yeah you look like a rock star Jack! Could be a vid I see on tv and you have the art of getting a video together down pretty good (will come in handy for when your blog turns into a gay porn site!) Looks like a fun time. bfn - Wayne :)

Hi there, Jack

Sorry I didn't get round to commenting on this earlier.

I'm afraid that I don't yet understand what the message of the video is (at least, I assume there is one); I suspect this owes a lot to the fact that Enter Shikari are definitely not my type of music, and their lyrics are almost inaudible if the volume is at a comfortable level for me. Nevertheless, I can tell that a lot of work went into the production and editing of this - better made than some professional videos I could think of. I'll be very interested to see your work in future.

I would also say that I think "lead vocalist" is a rather good-looking guy, and that the shorter hair-cut suits him. I just hope he has more occasion to smile in real life than he does in the video.

Take care

Mark

hey Mark,

The lyrics are about "what did you do to yourself!" which we decided to take an inwards attidude and look at how some peole turn out. So there are two persona's,

one is a confromist charater who works a 9-5 job ... nothing more than that. But as he hates his job/life he decides to shed his life (sybolised by the clothes) and goes on a journey to confront himself.

The other character is at the oposite end of the scale, where he lives a very rough life due to his unhappyness. he even turns to alcohol. But in the end he realises that the only way to be truely happy is to confront himself.

In the end you dicover that they are the same person and they cofront themselves inorder to become content (and also the performer/vocalist, who is the best of both worlds).

Although by a less symbolic interpretation, you could just say that the three people are the same person. The performer works a 9-5 jobs nd hates it, so he turns t alcohol in his free time. And confronts this at the end.

Both are intentional, but it targets our target audience mostly, so i dont really blame you for not understanding all of the symbolism/storyline haha. It even confused us sometimes lol

so in answer to your statement; the message is that you shouldnt ignore our problems or try to mask them with supliments such as alchol, and instead you should confront them head on.

oh and thank you for the compliments on our casting haha. i shall pass on the message to the vocalist, and shall askk him that question :P

Hi there, Jack

Many thanks for the explanation - I tend to be a lot better at getting meaning out of written words than from moving pictures. Now I know what to look for, I can see all the elements you describe in the video :-)

Meanwhile, I did read the cast list, so I'm fairly sure you won't have to go far to talk to "lead vocalist" ;-)

Take care

Mark
